Cogley Buffington Scholarship Essay

Seniors:  The Wendy's HS Heisman Schol. is available online at www.WendysHeisman.com.  The first 25,000 entrants will be mailed $10 gift cards to Wendy's.  To qualify, you must have at least a 3.0 GPA and be in at least one school-sponsored sport.  The deadline is Oct. 2nd.  Two people are winners of small prizes at each school and those that qualify as national finalists get to go to New York City to be on ESPN, win money, and DHS would win money too!

Coca-Cola Scholarship: Students must apply and fill out an on-line application form at www.coca-colascholars.org. Students must be planning to pursue a degree at an accredited post-secondary institution and have a minimum 3.0 GPA. Applicants are evaluated on the following:  demonstrated leadership, commitment to community, academic achievement, and employment.  October 31st.

 

Golden West Scholarship: In order to qualify for this scholarship you must be a senior with a 2.5 GPA and plan to attend college after graduation.  You will need to write a 600-1000 word essay about a personal encounter you or someone you know has had with drug and/or alcohol abuse, how it was dealt with, and, in your opinion, what was right or wrong about the way the incident or problem was handled.  For more information go to www.alertmagazine.org .

Jack Kent Cooke Foundation College Scholars--www.jkcf.org--Plan to graduate from a US high school in spring, inted to enroll in an accredited four-year college beginning in the fall, earn a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or above, Receive a ACT test score of 26 or above.

Elks Most Valuable Student Scholarship:  The MOST VALUABLE STUDENT Competition is open to all high school seniors who are US citizens. The awards vary between $1000 and $15,000 per year.  To obtain an electronic application go to: www.elks.org/enf/scholars.  Local winners receive $300, $200, and $100 for the top three boys and girls.  Send your completed application to:  Dennis D. ARDELL BJUGSTAD SCHOLARSHIP-Applicants must be an enrolled member of a federally recognized Indian tribe and planning to earn a degree in agriculture or natural resources or a related field. Applications are in the scholarship box or can be downloaded at www.sdbor.edu/.  Click on Academic Information on the left hand side and then on Scholarships. 

American Indian Services--www.americanindianservices.org--Amount varies.  Requires enrollment in a university, college, junior college or technical school; 1/4 Northern-Native American Indian blood and has a minimum 2.25 GPA.  Feb. deadline usually.

MARION T. WOOD SCHOLARSHIP-The candidate must have at least a 2.8 GPA and intend to continue their Education in an office-related business program.  It is also a requirement to have completed two or more business classes. http://www.sdaeop.com/SDAEOP/SDAEOP_Student_Scholarship_Form.html  Feb. 15th.

KFC COLONEL’S SCHOLARSHIP-Any student who will be attending an in-state public university and have a 2.75 or higher GPA and pursuing a bachelor’s degree is eligible to apply. Applications are available online at www.kfcscholars.org.  Feb. 16th.

National Society of Professional Engineers--www.nspe.org--160 awards from $500 to full tuition scholarships, renewable, to specific schools listed in the NSPE scholarship application.  Students must be in upper 25% of class, have a 3.0 GPA, have SAT of 500v, 600m minimum, be interested in attending an ABET accredited school.  March 1st.

SD Sheriff's Association Scholarship--www.southdakotasheriffs.org--SD college, criminal justice or law enforcement major.  March 7th.

SOUTH DAKOTA FIRE SERVICE SCHOLARSHIP - *S -2- $1000--A Son or daughter of any member (living, deceased or retired) of a fire department in South Dakota or an active member of a junior fire department in South Dakota.March 15th.

BUCHES "UNDERDOG" SCHOLARSHIP -$1000--Applicants must plan on attending a trade school or college for the Fall and Winter semester. This scholarship will be awarded to a student that has overcome some seemingly insurmountable obstacles in their lives.  It recognizes the accomplishments of the student that struggled to graduate. Angel Dolphin Scholarship--www.angeldolphinscholarship.org--Full time students majoring in any area who have lost one or both parents.  March 21st.

Indian Health Service Scholarship--www.scholarship.ihs.gov--Tuition, fees, books,tutoring, monthly stipend of $1,250 and $300 per year to offset travel expenses-medical career-recipients incur a one-year service obligation to the Indian Health Service for each year of support for a minimum of two years.  March 28th.

Description

Martin Cogley and Richard Buffington selflessly gave their time and energy to teach insurance and business courses to professionals in the Sioux Falls area. They were instrumental in establishing the Sioux Empire Chapter of Certified Property and Casualty Underwriters.

The local CPCU created this scholarship in their memory to be awarded to a graduating high school senior from the Sioux Empire who wishes to pursue an academic degree from an accredited institution and who demonstrates an interest in business.

The Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter professional designation, conferred by the American Institute for CPCU, sets a standard of excellence for men and women in the property and liability insurance business.

Requirements

Be graduating seniors from high schools throughout South Dakota, Southwest Minnesota, or Northwest Iowa.

Plan to attend an accredited, four-year college or university.

Demonstrate financial need.

Have a GPA of 3.5 or higher.

Participate in extra-curricular and community activities.

Demonstrate an interest in and understanding of the role of business in American society.
